All middle school students at McAuliffe Manual study engineering and biomedical science and engage with IB Middle Years Program design cycle through our Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Gateway to Technology program.
To align with Manual High School’s new Med School at Manual program, McAuliffe Manual offers the new Medical Detectives course through our partnership with Project Lead the Way.
Students play the role of real-life medical detectives as they analyze genetic testing results to diagnose disease and study DNA evidence found at a “crime scene.” They solve medical mysteries through hands-on projects and labs, investigate how to measure and interpret vital signs, and learn how the systems of the human body work together to maintain health.
PLTW’s Gateway to Technology curriculum includes foundation courses in Design & Modeling and Automation & Robotics during 6th grade, and specialty courses that build upon this foundation during 7th and 8th grades. This project-based curriculum allows students to envision, design, and test their ideas with the same advanced modeling software used by leading technology and engineering companies.
Design & Modeling
Students are introduced to and use the design process to solve problems and understand the influence that creative and innovative design has on our lives.
Automation & Robotics
Students use a robust robotics platform to design, build, and program a solution to solve an existing problem.
