After-School Clubs & Enrichments

Fall Clubs start October 2nd and run through December 15th

See descriptions below. All sessions will run from 3:55 pm to 4:50 pm. Please contact the office if you are interested in any of these fall clubs.

 

CLUB DESCRIPTIONS:

Yoga Club ($25; Monday and Wednesday OR Tuesday and Thursday): This club is a great place for students to learn about the benefits of yoga. They will be able to learn and participate in stretching routines, which are beneficial for calming the heart and mind as well as increasing flexibility and stamina. The instructor is a long-time yoga practitioner and was trained in India at Rishikesh Yog Peeth. Yoga mats will be provided to anyone who needs one.

Total Wellness ($25; Monday and Wednesday OR Tuesday and Thursday): In this class, you can expect to indulge in an instructor-led workout designed to enhance your physical fitness and relax your body and mind. We will focus on different styles of exercise from plyometrics to HIIT (high intensity interval training), boot camp to cardio kickboxing, weight lifting to indoor cycling. Each class will focus on a specific exercise style for 20-30 minutes, and then we’ll spend the rest of the time performing a variety of stretches, deep breathing exercises and guided meditation in order to finish the school day with a calm, reflective, meaningful purpose to care for ourselves and others.

Spoken Word/Hip Hop ($25; Monday and Wednesday OR Tuesday and Thursday): A class facilitated by Mr. Roberts, spoken word poetry and hip hop/verse are very similar and involve the art of public speaking. The class will teach the fundamentals of public speaking, the ideology behind spoken word performances, as well as a history of hip hop and the struggles to make it an accepted form of art.

Book Club ($25: Wednesday only): Facilitated by Ms. Austin, students will have time to read and prepare for meaningful discussions with their peers on books they choose. The first book will be announced soon.

5K Club (Free; Monday and Wednesday): Please join our 5K Club  from 4:15pm to 5pm on the Manual track- all you need are comfortable shoes – how easy is that? It is a time to connect with others and get the blood flowing and achieve a goal of finishing a 5k race in November in City Park with students and staff members cheering you on!


YMCA Early-Drop Off Program

MMMS has partnered with the YMCA to offer programing opportunities during our late start days. Pre-registered students can attend from 7:45 – 10:15 am, where breakfast will be provided as well as a variety of athletic and team building games. Parents need to complete this registration form and submit it with payment to the main office by 9/27/17 in order to participate.


After-School Enrichments start in October

Spelling Bee!

Have a talent for knowing and spelling vocabulary words? Jump in and participate in the Spelling Bee! This enrichment program runs October through Spring 2018. The first inter-school competition is December 7, 2017. Sign up outside room 327 (Ms. Aimee’s room). You will get a Spell It! dictionary so you can study at home or with friends. There are online ways to practice as well. Don’t procrastinate, December 7th isn’t very far away! Sign up deadline is October 20, 2017.

Destination Imagination

Are you creative? Do you like to think outside of the box? Do you like to work in groups to problem solve? Destination Imagination (DI) is an international, educational program that gives kids an amazing outlet for creativity. Sign up outside room 327 (Ms. Aimee’s room).  DI runs October – March. Come learn about this year’s challenges at our informational meeting on Monday, October 9th from 3:45- 5:00 pm.

Mathletics

Do you love math? Enjoy the challenge of figuring out a tricky problem? Come join our Mathletics team and grow your mathematical abilities. There will be inter-school competitions throughout the year and weekly after school practices. This enrichment will begin on October 10th and run through the end of the year. Sign up outside room 327 (Ms. Aimee’s room). Remember, math is the only subject that counts!
