World Affairs Challenge 2017/18
Students from McAuliffe Manual Middle School are participating in this year’s World Affairs Challenge (WAC). Their solution to this year’s prompt, Smart World, is to help educate girls in Pakistan, which creates a way out of poverty and aims to erase gender inequality. Read more about their fundraising and awareness work in partnership with the Marshall Direct Fund at this link. Marshall Direct is competing with other agencies for grant matching! Every donation of $10 or more to the Marshall Fund helps Marshall advance in the competition.
Destination Imagination 2017/18
Congratulations to our two Destination Imaginations teams for placing in this year’s citywide competition. Both teams are advancing to the state competition in April!
- 3rd place Humble Hedgehogs: Maya Bauer, Bailey Tolson, Evelyn Higgins, Isabella King & Sophia Charles. Their project Impact – growing food to give to the Growhaus, which helps feed healthy food to people in the local food desert.
- 3rd place Moist Towelettes Jack Young, Oliver Farley, Ainsley Alsabih & Gabe Curcio. The engineering challenge required them to build a structure that could hold weight dropped from one foot above. Their structure held all the weight it could possibly hold, and then the appraiser had to kick it to get it to break!
